WORSHIP

890 Boulevard – 10:30 a.m.

We are so glad you found us, and we would love for you to come worship with us! We are a multi-generational, family friendly church whose mission is to know Jesus, and to make him known in Normaltown, Athens, and the world.

Worship

  • Our worship service includes music, prayers, liturgies, preaching and communion. On most Sundays, an elder will lead the congregation through our liturgy found in the bulletin and our pastor Morgan Angert will preach.

Our music includes traditional hymns set to contemporary music.

We observe communion every Sunday, and participation is voluntary.

    Beliefs // Sermons // Bulletins

  • There is a lot behind the church building with an entrance on Hiawassee Ave. Please park in this lot or along Boulevard, but leave the spots immediately in front of the building for those who need close access.

  • Infant – Kindergarten

Our nursery is open for 0 to 4-year olds, and Children’s Church is open to Pre-K and Kindergarteners and will be dismissed before the sermon. Every child is checked in with a name tag, and a volunteer will be waiting to assist you.

    Children’s Ministry

  • Dress how you feel most comfortable. Good Shepherd as a whole is pretty casual and on most Sundays you will see people wearing jeans and a comfortable shirt.

  • Worship

The late pastor Tim Keller once said that a worship service is an opportunity for "Gospel Reenactment." We want to encounter the living God in our worship every week through confessing our sins, professing our faith, singing praise, hearing the Word preached, and taking the Lord's Supper. Each of these elements help us to publicly reenact the gospel as we boldly approach the throne of God and receive the assurance of His love for us in Jesus. Join us every Sunday at 10:30a.m. as we worship God and rejoice in the truth of the gospel!

  • Sunday School

At Good Shepherd, Sunday School is an avenue of ministry that seeks to help root God's people in the Gospel as we "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18). This rhythm of growth is meant to extend outward and upward—reflecting His kingdom and reaching our city. Through Sunday School, we hope to better equip all those in our church with a deeper understanding of the gospel and the implications it holds for each of our lives. We offer Sunday School for all ages, as well classes directed towards church membership.

  • Serve

In Romans 12, the apostle Paul shows us that the body of Christ is made up of people who have a diversity of gifts and callings. We believe that the love of Christ in our church is put on display most clearly when we are using those gifts to serve one another. Serving in church on Sundays not only grows you in your connection to Christ, but also deepens your connection to others in the church. There are many ways to serve on Sunday mornings , including participating on the music team, helping with greeting and Sunday set-up, and serving in our nursery or Children's church.

Sunday School Sessions

This 6-week class, led by Pastor Morgan and our Elders, is for any and all who want to dig deeper into the life and mission of our church. We will be looking at who we are, what we believe, and where we are headed as a church. If you are new to Good Shepherd, this class is for you. If you are interested in church membership, this class is for you. If you have attended regularly and want a clearer picture of what we are about and how to get involved, this class is for you.

  • Understanding the Faith & Church Membership

This is a 6-week class for those 8 years and older who have either made a profession of faith and are seeking full-membership (participate in the Lord’s Supper) into the church, or those who are preparing to make a profession of faith. This class will explore justification, sanctification, glorification, church membership, and the Lord’s Supper.

This class is only offered in the Spring.

“Worship is the arena in which God recalibrates our hearts, reforms our desires, and rehabituates our loves. Worship isn’t just something we do; it is where God does something to us. Worship is the heart of discipleship because it is the gymnasium in which God retrains our hearts.”

–James K.A. Smith
